After installing Office 97, I lost the use of the "ctrl + alt" shortcut keys. I plug them in, and they work for that session, but after re-booting, they stop working (although they are still indicated in properties).

Does anyone know what I can do to restore this function? Thanks.

I don't have an answer now but I could perhaps find out for you Monday ... but please post if you have resolved the situation and let us know how you resolved it. "See" you Monday.

I dont understand your situation. Are you talking about in word or excel? or are you talking about windows shortcuts...

I am talking about windows shortcuts. Windows allows "ctrl + Alt + any letter" hot key shortcuts for all desktop and start menu items, accessed through properties. I have always used these shortcuts, until I installed Office 97. After that, they no longer worked.

I don't know if it'll solve your prob, but it's not too painful to try.

Remove the keyboard driver from the device manager and let Win9x plug~n~pray it back.

You might boot to safe mode and check to see if there is more than one instance of a keyboard driver in the device manager before you delete anything. If there is more than one, delete 'em all. Happy Tapping http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

ahh ok Windows shortcut keys... I was scratching my head a bit on that one. The Word97 assignment of shortcut keys usually stay put unless you change the Normal.dot template.

close, but no cigar (not another cigar thread). for any icon in the start menu or on the desktop (at least) you can assign a shortcut key combo (control - alt - something). i use them all the time instead of mousing around. would really tick me off to lose them too, but never heard of this problem before.

maybe you need to rebuild your icons?
