Somewhere I saw a company (or companies) that sell mobos with cpus already installed, pre-tested and ready to go. Anyone seen such a website?

I'm real concerned about ending up with the wrong cpu / mobo combination, especially when it comes to voltage. I would like a 600E and I'm concerned that my 3 year old mobo won't cut the mustard. I'm thinking I would be better off buying a new board (maybe BE6/2) that I know will run the 600E, and moving my old board and chip to a spare box I have that contains a dead board. Any ideas? I'm wide open to ideas and appreciate all the ideas so far from my fellow members. http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif

Hi,
There definitely are places where you can get the mobo /cpu bundle. One that I know of is http://www.tccomputers.com/. Just go to their mobos then click "specs" of the particular board and it'll list CPU options.I got an asus w/ a k6-2 400 from them last summer. They include a good warranty and their shipping is reasonable. I think Aberdeen has bundles too though I've not bought from them.
And pahlcomputers.com offers a flat charge to install and configure components and he has good shipping rates and prices. I've bought components from him a few times. Hope this helps.

This may be too late to help you now, but MultiWave has such combos for sale & they've dropped their price on the BE6 to $109 or so.

Not sure they actually install it on the board for you. However, I built my first computer a year ago and the scariest part for me was getting that pentium slot one seated. It took a lot more force than I expected, but nothing cracked or broke.

Actually, building your own computer from parts you select and put together yourself can be one of the more rewarding experiences nowadays! (imho)

Thank you for the info. A lot to choose from!

PS: I closed my eyes and prayed for the best when just flashing a bios! This is closest I've come to building a system, i.e., chip -- thermal grease -- heatsink & fan!
