3.5 floppy drive haunted?

This is pretty scary, so read at your own risk. My wife has a Celery system, Win98se, with a few programs, that she uses as a host wirelessly networked to her client laptop. She usually sits back on the sofa and surfs the Web with her laptop, but of course the Host desktop is running in an armoir in the next room. Just about every 40 minutes or so, the desktop floppy drive gets activated and does a search of the drive. Anyone know why? Oh, I just learned this happens even when her laptop is turned off.

I know my PC does it because of the AntiVirus program.

I had a thread about a month ago for this concern, can't remember the post, otherwise I'd link to it. Sorry!
