PC Model: Clone
Motherboard Model: ABIT BH6
BIOS Version: Award Modular BIOS V.4.51PG
BIOS Extension: V.1.0A
BIOS ID: *HN
BIOS Date: 1/7/99
CPU: Intel PII 400 MHz
HDD 1: Western Digital 2.1GB
HDD 2: Seagate 8.4GB
Operating System: W98SE

I have two 128MB PC100 SDRAM modules:
#1 is a generic brand
2 is Kingston

Both only work in DIMM1.

If I try to put either one in any other slot
(aside from 1), the PC won't boot. Also, no matter which combination I try when I go to add the second module (in either slot 2 or 3) the PC won't boot.

I went to the ABIT site and noted that none of the BIOS update listed for this board reference memory issues.

What, if anything, do I need to do to be able to use both 128MB pieces on this system?

With all the brilliant minds on this forum, I'm surprised to have gotten no replies...

Help (please)!

just something interesting i read at the abit site might be relevant

"Why does the ZM6 still not recognize the two Single sided SDRAMs in DIMM 2 or DIMM 3?"
Currently, we know some kind of single sided SDRAMs might use two banks, thus it will cause the BIOS to not be able to read the correct capacity when you put the SDRAM into DIMM2 and DIMM3, so before you get in this situation, please check the type of SDRAM.

That would be very interesting... I've got a friend who ordered the same type RAM that I did (which was the original reason for my posting this issue). I'm going to see if he's willing to swap modules so I can have two of the same kind.

If our system can then use both, I'll write back and let the group know.

Thanks for the information.

Have you tried DIMM2 and DIMM3 together (leave DIMM1 blank)?

Yes, I did try the two modules in slots 2 and 3... The PC wouldn't even POST.
