I will be getting a MB soon and would like to know which chipset is the fastest for gaming and who makes the best MB for a PIII Cu-mine FC-PGA 600E? I will not accept the P3C2000 as a choice. I am considering the P3V4X or the CUBX from Asus. I've heard great reviews from all the owners. I would like to hear from others as well.

There is a review of what they called the top 7 BX boards at http://www.anandtech.com . From what I've been reading the BX chipset is still the fastest over the VIA 133A and Intel 820. If your going to be running at 133MHz FSB on a BX board, make sure you have a newer video card that can handle at least a 89MHz AGP bus.

I was gunna get a celly 2 soon, and had the same 2 to pick from.
I picked the P3V4X based on mainly the AGP 4x slot and the fact that I can raise the memory speed to FSB+33Mhz.
The only perk the CUBX really had was the fact that I wouldnt have to buy a Slocket, and that It had 2 extra ATA-33 ports...things you can buy for the board anyways. But you cant buy AGP 4x without upgrading the whole board..
This is a tenative pick for now..
Theres also a new one..I never seen this before I went to the Asus Page..Its called the CUV4X. Its basically a S370 version of the P3V4X.

Aura- Have you noticed any of the issues people have been saying about that board? I was considering it too. I would really like the 1/2 AGP, +/-PCI memory funtion, and the 4X AGP but I'm feeling kind of skeptical. What are your thoughts on the board? Thanks.

PC Mag reviewed high end boxes, details linked at http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/003242.html a 800 mhz BX beat the 1GHzs on regular programs! With *basic* over-clocking of 89 & FSB 133 a BX box maybe the fastest thing around. For my needs an Asus P3B-F with PCI video is it

BX faster than VIA133? I read that too, but got the Asus P3V4x anyway to replace my Abit BE6-II. As I've posted on this board, comparing the two at 803MHz -- the Asus was faster at video, UDMA66 performance and in the memory bench marks.

The only way the Abit could be considered faster is that I was able to boot into Windows 98SE at 825MHz with the Abit and have not been able to do so with the Asus. Yet http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/wink.gif However, I could not run 3D games at 825MHz so I far as I am concerned, the Abit topped out at 803MHz with my 550E.

Admittedly, I added a heatsink/fan to my Asus clock generator chip and no hardware modification was necessary with the Abit. I didn't try running the Asus without the heatsink/fan, so I can't say for sure that this modification is necessary. But its all the rage amongst the Asus group and I didn't want to be the only kid on the block without one. Also, I figured it was a small price to pay, especially since I had the extra hardware laying around anyway. So, if you don't mind supergluing an extra heat sink on your mobo, I think the Asus VIA133 is better than the Abit BX board.
