motherboard FIC VB-601-V
bios version qc617
board revision 1.3
cpu p2-400
128mb DRAM chip, PC100
I just got this new motherboard, and when win98 was done re-installing everything and rebooted, the system halted and said "windows protection error. you need to restart your computer." i did not know what to do, so i re-installed win98. i installed all of the motherboard software drivers on the included CD, including the VIA AGP patch for win9x. everything was fine until i put in my voodoo3 disc to install the voodoo3 drivers. upon rebooting it gave me the same error. i tried re-installing the AGP stuff on the FIC CD, to no avail. i've tried many things, from probing my control panel to setting my AMIBIOS to the most conservative (fail-safe) settings. i got the newest BIOS that i could find, and tried to find newer voodoo3 drivers, which are apparently not out. no matter what i've tried, nothing will allow me to boot to windows with the voodoo3 drivers properly installed. (it worked with my last motherboard, an intel LX chipset motherboard) Are there AMIBIOS settings I need to be aware of? The tiny v3 manual says not to have the following enabled : video bios shadow or cache, VGA palette snoop or DAC snoop, hidden refresh, or byte merge. Like i said i used the fail-safe bios settings, and wasn't sure where to find the latter 3 settings in the AMIBIOS, i'm only familiar with awardBIOS. Please help, i don't want to have to send this motherboard back, i've already sent 2 back to this company, and i've been without a computer for this whole week. Any suggestions you might have will be Extremely Appreciated! please write to my email for the quickest way to reach me, but feel free to post on here too! (PS. i've cross-posted this message to 3 relevent boards, i hope no one minds)
thank you very much for your time!
