I recently phoned Dell about a small problem with my machine. I was talking to a girl in the Austin TX Tech Support Center..
She asked me where I was from and I said, "Canada". And then she said, "Oh, Thats funny. We don't get many overseas callers."
hehe.

Maybe you dialed TX but got patched through to their Zimbabwe Unit? Hmmm? It's possible...

Thats funny!
I bet we could keep a whole forum section busy with tech stories! Any votes for a humor forum (computer based of course)?

Theres more.. That day, NO ONE could solve the problem. I ended up talking to this Middle East guy in the Austin center.. He was giving me dos commands to type in, and one of them had something to do with deltree. Forgetting the correct terms, I was typing in delltree, for some reason thinking it was a DELL thing... After I told him how I was spelling it, he freaked, and basically almost started to cry.

sounds like when i called gateway when i first got my computer years ago. I wanted to know how to get a game that came with the machine to run in dos. the guy told me that they didn't make dos anymore, and that maybe I could get a different game made for windows... LOL
I told him the game came with the computer, and he offered me a refund! I am not sure how he got his job, but that was the last time I called.

OMG these are funny stories. My one and only experience with Dell tech support was when the computer locked up at my wifes work. The machine would post and detect drives and then just freeze. They called tech support and they told them the motherboard was bad and shipped them a new one. Knowing that I have some experience with installing hardware they asked me if I could help. Immediatly I knew it wasn't the motherboard because it would post and ended up all that needed to be done was to restore the system files from a boot disk. I installed the motherboard for them anyway just to spite those morons who sent it.

Well just two weeks ago one of our customers logged a call to say he could not open the CD Drawer unless the PC (a mobile) had power, I took great pleasure in telling him that it was normal operation for the drawer not to open unless it was connected to a power supply http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
He hung up, and I closed the call.
Some people............
It would not have been so funny, if not for the fact that he was a salesman for the company http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I guy I sold a system a week ago called earlier today, wanted to bring system back as faulty, when asked why he stated that no sounds came out of the speakers, Which I thoughts was abit weird as I had personally checked the system before he took delivery,
When asked what he had been doing,
I was informed he had been on the net ( after finding he had no sound) and download lots of diffrent proggies to try and cure the problem, well I ended up telling to bring in the system and I would have a look at it, so it duly arrive late thi afternoon, plug every thing in a switch on speakers monitor and system it fires up no probs full sound from speakers, so I shut it down and then asked him what was he doing as sound was fine , then asked him to show me how he turned his system on, he switched the monitor on then the system case ( but not the speakers) asked him why he did'nt switch speakers on, and got but this is an ATX every thing switches on and off when you shut down the system, when explained he had to turn on speakers red face followed and a hasty retreat.
By the way Canada oversea to USA, when did you get a sea between you.

we have a show in canada called this hour has 22 minutes, and they always cut up americans ignorance and any real knowledge of canada.......some of the bits are real funny as they will go to atlanta for example and just randomly interview people on the street and ask them questions about canada and tell them how we all live in igloosan dhunt seals for food. i remember being in Kansas City Mo. on a Toronto Blue Jays road trip, and once we were a little looped up and taking our cab rides to the hotel we would always have fun with the cabbies. i remember telling one cabbie when he asked what canada was like, we told him it was great except that we have too many Vikings running around in toronto, told him you can easily identify them cause they have horns on their heads.......needless to say he was amazed http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Few months ago we had a DNS server go down so the internet was unavailable to some clients for a while.
Guy calls in and says "The internet is broken!". I opened my smart mouth and told him "Well, I'll call the internet repairman!". Luckily he didn't get it and was pleased as punch when the DNS server came back up a few minutes later.
The mysterious and powerful superhero "Internet Repairman" is now a running joke on my Help Desk.

My older brother saw this post and told me about a time he had called Gateway for a system problem.
He gave them all the information they needed, and the continued to ask him questions. After a while of troubleshooting the guy asked, "Hmm.. Maybe you should call the company that built the computer and ask them."
My brother said, "What?!" and the guy said, "I SAID.. Maybe you could call the company that buil .. Oh.. Umm.. Nevermind."
He heard my brother laughing and was quick to tell him he may have a memory problem, to quickly get off the phone from further embarassment..

ytay, there are many misinformed people around http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. Last year I had a visitor from the UK stay over for a week. Once we got into a huge argument that she started about the differences between our two countries (US and UK). She was rambling off whatever she could think of to "defend" her countries honor (very patriotic). She even said that Ford was a British company!! That made me laugh reeeeaaal hard http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif. She also said that they learn about America all the time in school and we never learn about their country. I figured that she was never going to give up, so I walked away...
Personally I really don't give a hooty about the differences between US and the UK (or any other country for that matter...). She just happened to iniciate (sp?) the argument because she was a little bit too patriotic.
