I purchased a IBM 34 GXP drive not realizing my asus p2b motherboard is only udma/33. Is this what this card is designed for is to control my hardrive and give it support fot udma/66? I really want to get the most out of this new drive without buying a new motherboard, is there anyone who has experience with using a controller card that can tell me if it's easy to setup and use, and if its W2k compatible. Thanks

If you have the money, then that's what that card will do, but.....

The next generation IBM hard drive is going to be the first that actully gets any real benifit from ata66. As it's going to be the first drive with a sustained data transfer rate over 33mb/s. With your drive the only benifit you'll see from ata66 is when the requested data is already in the buffer because the heads can't read off the platters at over 33mb/s. That's 2mb out of 34gb, the odds arn't great.

seti- so there really won't be any noticable difference then? That's kinda what it sounded like and I don't want to waste my money cause I could put that money towards a new motherboard I guess. Thanks

I did a little research on storagereview.com and it looks like I will notice a minimal difference BUT I will be able to have my drive on it's own chanel, right now there is a zip drive slaved to it cause I also have a cdrom and a cdr on the other chanel right now. This being the case will it give me a noticeable difference?. How would I set this config up anyways?Hope someone can help cause i'm going to do it this weekend.Thank you.
