hi, i am currently looking for a printer.
Lexmark's z11 appeared to be the good choice for me, it's really "cheap" compared to HP, Canon, or Epson... (at the same revolution)
anyway, is anybody know what is the disadvantage of a Lexmark ( since the price is so low...)?
how is a 1200 x 1200 dpi Lexmark compared to a 1200 x 1200 dpi HP, would the printing quality be the same ?

Well....I am a huge proponent of HP only for printers. While the Lexmarks look like a decent equivelent, their cartridges are impossible to find in Charleston SC. They got good reviews though. If it is $100 I might think about it otherwise the HP 932 is around $150 and gives 2400x1200 at that speed and the cartridges are the easiest to find and the most economical since they replace the printer head every time. They are also MUCH more durable than the Lexmarks. Just my .02.

I have an Epson Stylus Color 600. I think they are selling for $99 or so now. The cartridges are less expensive than HP or Lexmark, but they don't have their own print heads like the HP's do.
You can find carts. pretty cheap on Ebay, or use knockoffs... they seem to work just as well in this printer, for less money.
I just use mine for classes and for fun, but with the right settings, it prints pretty darn sharp for an inkjet.
Another thing to consider is USB vs Parallel port.. USB is faster (I think, right?).

Just looked it up.. retail store wise, Best Buy and Circuit City both have the Epson Stylus 740 for $99 after rebate, and it is USB capable (I don't think the 600 version is...).
Just my $0.02! Good luck! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Can't beat $20. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif USB is faster in regards of uploading the print que but does not increase the speed of the print. It is more convenient though.

I seem to remember the Lexmark cheap printers are software controlled (hence the price)
If you have Windows, this is fine, but I am not sure if there are problems under different operating systems, as with winmodems.
Having said that, my brother bought one and is very happy with it.

As a former employee of Lexmark International Inc., I don't think I can legally comment in public on there products(who knows, I signed so many **** papers when I went to work for them, I probably owe them my first born or something) but I'm going to anyway. I for one, will never own a Lexmark ink-jet printer for several reasons.
First, quality control is a total joke....trust me, I know. I worked in the test cell in electronics and we shipped cards out that had feel in the oven and had actually turned brown from cooking to long. True, they did pass all the tests, but can you say latent failures. And this was mid and lower managment pushing these cards, not the sector leaders on the floor. I know other company's probably have these problems too, but I don't have first hand knowledge of them.
Secondly, at one time(don't know if it's still true today) Lexmark ink-jet's use more ink on average than any other ink jet printer. And they are more expensive. So after a year or so of using that "inexpensive" printer, you've actually spent more than you would have if you'd of just went ahead and bought the more expensive HP(well, that's my favorite). And I honestly beleive that this was the company's game plan all long....sell'm a cheap printer, them stick'm on the ink. Now lexmark's laser printer's, that's a whole nother story, lots more QC.......

I bought 2 of these cheap they were 50 bucks with a 50 buck rebate, so free. Gave them with some really cheap systems I was building, one of the persons that has one of the systems refill the carts and love it dont know about the other one. They are not much but better than nothing.

well, we got a lexmark 3200, sometime before christmas, actually, way before Christmas. Anyway, we got it at office max for 120.00. Then they had (have?) a 40.00 rebate. So, we got the printer for 80 bucks net...
I like the printer, and for that price, I am VERY impressed. Color quality is really good, images are nice and crisp, I mean what the heck, we are harried home owners, so......
Oh yeah, I haven't used the photo cartridges yet, but a neighbor has used it with heavy photo paper, and looks GREAT!
Good Luck!

I have a Z31 and the text is almost laser quality. Print speed is nowhere near what Lexmark claims. Have not tried photo paper, but have seen some examples and it looks pretty impressive.

I use a Z11 for home usage and it works fine . But I also note that i do,nt use my home printer much except for web pages and word docs. I really have not played around with it enough to give you an asessment on photo quality. But I usually hear that they're a good budget printer http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif..

I think you will find Lexmark arn't planning any drivers for W2K pro or Mill with this printer, in fact their driver support stinks, 5700 less than 12 months old can't use W2K pro, Lexmarks answer to no driver buy another printer from us these ones do have a driver. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
Get HP CANNON even EPSOM but not Lexmark.
