All of you Earthlink users, have you heard about this 'Fast Lane'. The more details says it doesn't collect site/email info. Has anyone tried it and do you notice any difference? You guys/gals know how I feel about privacy/tracking issues..

from: http://www.earthlink.net/internet/software/fastlane/

EarthLink now offers a free service, called Fast Lane, that should make your Internet connection faster and more reliable than ever.

If you use a Windows 95/98 computer, simply download and install the free Fast Lane software, and you're ready to go. The program runs in the background and instantly alerts EarthLink about any connection problems you might occasionally experience, like busy signals or crowded dial-up numbers. The connection data Fast Lane provides allows us to pinpoint network problems and get them fixed quickly.

Fast Lane will help us improve the overall quality of every EarthLink member's connection, reducing busy signals and boosting connection speeds.

We encourage all EarthLink members using Widows 95 or Window 98 computers to start using our Fast Lane service. To participate, simply take a few minutes to download and install Fast Lane on your system.

I recently left Earthlink because of connection problems. I gave their tech support several opportunities to help me correct the problem. They did try and help with different settings, but they usually ended up by blaming my line, equip, etc. Sounds like I was not the only one having problems If they have come up with this Fast Lane. I did finally solve my connection problem, by switching my ISP.

Thanks for replying Jason. Actually, my connection seems fine. The only problem I do have seems to be isolated to AIM (AOL Instant Messenger). I have downloaded and reinstalled this program 3 different times, including the Netscape version. Since I have no other problems, I assume it's AIM... but haven't checked it out yet with Earthlink tech support.

Hi, Gal!

I've been using the Sherman Oaks 907 number, mostly, and haven't had any of the problems Fast Lane claims to correct.

I'm moderately suspicious of any kind of monitoring, so I think I'll wait for other responses and additional input. LOL http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

I got earthlink here in northern NJ, and it BITES. I mean its 15 miles from NYC and everyone who wants to be near NYC but doesnt wanna live in it lives here, but Earthlink cant drill that though thier thick heads. We got a huge population here, and ONE server (the closest one to be being 10(!) miles away, and barely local). I assume every ISP has the same problem, so i never tryed switchin. Maybe this'll help. Thanks socalgal.

Hi Roy ~ Yes I am hooked up to a local West Valley number and everything is fine here. The Fast Lane 'More Details' page claims only to monitor your internet connection.

That would be fine and good and beneficial to all users, especially like you AuraEdge, who seems to have a problem with a lousy service area! I mean, wow - only one server? And not even local? They need to get a clue!

Im using Earhlink temporarily while I wait for my cable modem to get installed. It seems to be more reliable than the other isps but I am connecting a bit slower with my 56k than I was at Texasnet. The fast lane service doesnt actually speed up individual connections, it just helps them identify network congestion. I dont really see the point in downloading it, because it wont increase the speed at which I connect.
