Has anyone heard the scoop on AMD's latest? Apperently they like doubled the level 2 cache, yet it still runs on current mobos. Got anything to add?

the thunderbird is just like the athlon except it will run at full speed (L2 cache). This was first named the "ultra athlon". http://sysopt.earthweb.com/forum/smile.gif

The Thunderbird will be realeased as a Socket A processor. There will be a slot A version for OEMS but not for retail. I am sure you will he able to get a slot A version but there will not be many.

It will run on a slot A motherboard with an adpater.

FYI (http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2571962,00.html)

Thunderbird's most important feature is its 256KB Level 2 cache. The cache, which will be integrated into the chip itself, increases the chip's overall performance by making data meant for processing accessible at much higher speeds than the non-integrated 512KB cache of the current Athlon chip.

Hey in response to jad1097's post:
Would you wait for Thunderbird, or will it not be worth it?

It will only be worth it if you like speed. =))
