This will be the first time I put together a custom built system and need some help on selecting a motherboard.

Thing is, I plan on using my system for high demanding games (ie Grand Prix 2) but also need a motherboard that is good as far as stablity and expandibilty like for the newest GeForce technology.

I was looking at the P3V4X, and understand it to be very stable and good for overclocking and expandability, but have heard very bad things about it's preformance with games.

Has this bug with gaming been fixed, and is it a good board for the needs I have?

And suggestions/comments would be highly appreciated.

imho the p3v4x is not bad on gaming. it is simply not equal to current bx board performance. plays all my games, no problem. install via 4.17 agp drivers for best results. this performance is likely to change as asus and via update bios and drivers. buy it.

Actually, I think the Abit Vt6x4 is a good motherboard. So good, that I picked one up. I have heard that the abit board is more stable than the asus board.

If you would settle for a celeron system, you can also put a celeron II on it, I suggest the msi 6153.

It seems to be reasonably stabile, and has a wide range of options.

The core voltage can be adjusted in increments of 0.1V.
The fsb can also be altered, in steps of about 5Mhz, ya know 66, 68, 74, 83 etc. etc.
It goes up till 153FSB, can you imagine??!!

I am gonna get myself one very soon, for I fried my p5a-b.
Now is my chance to give intel a try.

This is gonna be the very first time, that I am gonna have an Intel cpu in one of my systems.

I'm gonna buy the Cel II 533Mhz and I'm gonna clock it till kingdom come.
