Have'nt had any problems with previous versions of ZoneAlarm, but yesterday I downloaded ver 2.1.7. No problems, until today. Was attempting to do a scandisk, defrag routine and it would'nt get past the C: partition on my harddrive. Scandisk eventually timed out with a message that a program was writing to the drive (there was no activity) and defrag would just loop at the "reading files" portion early on in the defrag function. Doing them seperately, my D & E partitions scandisked and defragged without a problem. I shutdown ZoneAlarm (the only other program I had running) and was able to complete the maintainence on C normally. Previous versions of ZA did'nt cause this problem.....any ideas??....anybody else run across this??

Just like M1pilot, and Target, I had a hard time running Scan Disc and Defrag today. I also, belive updating Zone Alarm to the latest version, is the culprit. Seems even closing ZA, something is left running that doesn't show. I like a challenge!...back to work! ;-)

loser,

I have Zone Alarm 2.0.26 which is slightly over 1 MB in size. If you would like, I can send it to you. Let me know.

Take it out of running always in background
(msconfig stuff), use a short cut on desktop, cause if your not on the web you really don't need it running, right/

quiet, some of us, actually it's getting to be alot of us, are on the net 24/7 with cable/dsl connections.

Have you guys tried hitting the STOP button to stop all internet traffic both ways, then doing your disk maintainence?

Or have ya tried setting ZA so it's not doing any logging of any type?

Or just shutdown ZA, disk maintainence, then restart it.

You could probably do something like this with a batch file, or a macro utility like I keep harping about. I know, I know, but this macro thing really rules.

In fact, I recently showed my boss how much it was making my life easier at work, and he was so impressed that within the hour he was on the phone ordering a 10-user license so I could share it with my fellow employees. hehe.

Just shutting it down temporarily while doing the disk maintainence does the trick. Never thought of the stop button.....good idea.....will try it next time.
