"make a bootable disk with no resident files except command.com file."
How do I do this?
It says to copy ABITFAE.BAT & AWDFLASH.EXE and latest BIOS file also and then execute the EXE file to be a BIN file (binary file).
exe file to be a bin file????
any help much appreciated

I just upgraded my Bios this evening. Go to this link and follow the directions exactly. I did and had no problem. http://www.abit-usa.com/english/download/index.htm
Sounds difficult gmpirate, but its not, scarey yes, difficult no. What there telling you is you cant have any memmory resident programs running, so you format a floppy in explorer, copy and paste the startup files they tell you to, probably command.com, Msdos.sys and Io.sys, if you cant find these, click on view, folder options, then show all files. The bios file you downloaded is an exe file, double click on it and it extracts and becomes a .bin file, Copy awardflash to floppy. You can then make a autoexec.bat file and type in the instructions you want done (from the readme file).
You gotta disable a number of items in your bios before flashing, after flashing load defaults and save. Good luck, dont understand anything, Dont do it, post back

I put the 3 start up files on the disk with the bat, exe, and the bios exe file.
Now, do i execute the bios exe now?
And then reboot with floppy?
then what?

GMpirate: One of the files you should have on the diskette you created is AWDFlash.exe & you flash the rom from DOS by typing example >AWDFLASH BEH_QY.bin ; the rom has to be extracted (BEH_QY) to a bin suffix by double-clicking on the file after downloading from the Abit Website; this rom > BEH_QY.bin (March 2000) has to be on the diskette you created (one of the 3 files); I'm not near my notes but IF I remember correctly there is a readme file in the rom update OR on ABit website discussing the flash process. When you type the above mentioned command from DOS, it brings up a DOS screen that provides instructions on how to proceed.

ok,
Diskette contents:
IO.sys MsDos.sys Command.com
Abitfae.bat
awdflash.exe
behqu.exe with extracted file Beh_qy.bin
I restarted with disk in drive but Win 98 rebooted anyway. Only difference is autoexec file is on the floppy now . . .

I followed the instructions on the ABit web site with no problems. http://www.abit.com.tw/english/download/index.htm
Make sure you got cpu internal & external caches, video bios cacheable, sys bios cacheable and video bios cacheable disabled.
Edit the autoexec.bat file on floppy to A:\awdflash Beh_qy.bin /py /sn /cc /cd
That should do it

I don't understand. There is no autoexec file on the floppy. It wasn't called for.
Once at the A prompt I entered
A:\AWDFLASH
then in the program I entered the bin
BEH_QY.BIN and later tried BEH_QY
It said I didn't have matching program #'s???
I have the BE6-II ???????
the autoexec thing was just to save myself typing in the instructions at the dos prompt.
You can make that, or type it in at dos prompt. If you want to make one, start, run edit autoexec.bat It should open up a blank file,
type A:\awdflash Beh_qy.bin /py /sn /cc /cd and save it on floppy.
I seems to me the error message is telling you you got wrong bios, I checked out the site, seems ok to me?

I have a BE6-II also and I updated the bios without messing with a diskette. You have been messing with the diskette for days, recommend you do the following instead:
Create a directory or folder on you C: and name it BIOS. Go to the ABIT Webiste andDownload the BIOS file you needed BE6QY.EXE, and download the AWDFLASH.EXE into the new BIOS directory.
Execute the BIOS file, then it will automatically self-decompress into a binary file, i.e. BE6_QY.BIN.
Shut down your computer.
Restart the computer, press DEL to go into the BIOS, then disable the following:
1.CPU Level 1 Cache
2.CPU Level 2 Cache
3.Video BIOS Cacheable
4.Video BIOS Shadow
Save it, then restart the computer press Ctrl + F5,just before Windows starting up.
Type in "cd BIOS" to go into your newly created directory.
type: AWDFLASH be6_qy.bin /py /cc /sn /cd
Press F1 to reset, then press DEL to go into BIOS, then: Load the Setup Default
Go into CPU softmenu to adjust your CPU
speed and voltage Save it and Exit it.
Worked like a charm for me and I had no problems.

I just did what you said,
after I typed
"AWDFLASH be6_qy.bin/py/cc/sn/cd"
I was left at prompt "c:\BIOS:"
hitting F1 at that point did nothing so I
Ctr+Alt+Del and DEL again to get into BIOS
nothing looked different and my chip settings did not change. How do I know if anything happened?

are you sure that you dbl-clicked the exe file to decompress it?
Davnic told you the instructions per the web site. I followed it with no problems. Except I used a space instead of a _ between beh and qy. It took a while to figure that out http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif
After you typed it did a screen come up?

IT WORKS!!!
I did what you said, except it needed awdflash too.
. . . and now I get the "fabled" blue screen with hpt, (which I was not getting before)
now maybe I can figure out why I can't get my slave & master to boot up . . .
