Am seking information on were i can get heh information on the motherboard in my compaq presario 4640. I wish to upgrade from my PII 266 to a high end celeron, all i have been able to figure out is that it has a 82440 LX AGP chipset(was told this would support celerons at least up to 466 maybe higher) and let me say compaq support is useless.Oh and isnt agp 133mgz?and would that tell me the bus speed? Forgive my ignorance http://www.sysopt.com/forum/redface.gif anyway i think the bus speed is 66 from what i gatherd from info i read about the chipset.
lets not even get into O.C'ing i am clueless.

The 440LX chipset only has a 66 Mhz bus, so your choice of a Celeron processor is the correct one. The speed of the AGP is also 66 Mhz.
EDIT My one concern would be the voltage settings. I don't know what the celerons run at.

if i am not mistaken the celerons run at 2.o volt core and my slot one Pent. II 266 runs at a 2.8 volt core i think the slot one adapter card will compensate for the diff. in voltages my main concern is going to be with jumper settings and the bios from the info i have been reading....

I am looking for info about the Presario 4640 as well. I'd like to stick a Celeron in, but I am unclear as to whether Compaq's BIOS will support this.
The board was manufactured by Compaq (was told this) and the latest BIOS version is Phoenix BIOS 6.0.E., which is Compaq's own numbering system. There was a sticker on the MB stating TITAN II. This isn't the TITAN II MB you are thinking about because this one has a Pentium II range of up to 333MHz.
I'd really like to know if anyone has had any success with a Celeron in the Presario 4640. It's the only sensible upgrade until I can afford to get a new computor.

BIOS support is probably the utmost concern for the 4640 users out there. Without proper BIOS support, how will the L2 cache be handled? Will the processor even be recognized and will the system boot up? I guess the only way to tell is to try it out for myself, but that would be costly.
Is there any program out there that will tell you if your system is able to upgrade to a Celeron or anything like it?
C'T BIOS, by the way, detects the BIOS as a Phoenix BIOS and an Intel MB, which is probably incorrect.
Again, any help would be appreciated.

Well it seems i ve opened a can of worms...I was told that compaq only put up to pentII 333's on this motherboard, after that they have no information now i am not even sure they had celerons out when i purchased this cpu.so they might not have info for that reason.i also have the phenoix bios and am planning to give it a shot in about a week so i'll post and let you know...unless of corse somthing goes wrong.
