Yeh justice sometimes seems to take a back seat!
For me, like in the OJ Simpson case, and others that seem unjust, I have to revert back to the suchlike thinking. "someday whoever did this is going to have to answer to a higher authority"
And you know what I believe that!!!

This is just another event in all drink drive cases,
The drunk never pays the real penalty till much later, may he live a long life, and have to remember what he did for a long long time, as for the courts, it's about time they got a grip on reality. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
Sorry if I seem sinical over this, but courts all over have let people walk away with just fines and minor penaties even when a Legal breathing person has been killed.

Without taking sides on a current debate. In the USA a woman can terminate the life of an unborn child legally,, but If someone does it accidentally with a car it is "Vehicular Homicide". Do we have a double standard here or what ??

Yes...I think we have a double standard.

And, the British legal system classifies a living child much the same way the bible does ( unless you read from a politically correct version of the bible minted in teh last 25 years )...IE: a soul is a living and breathing body... ( modern bibles omitt this statement altogether )

Fact is, no matter how strongly you feel on this issue....worse things happen with no retribution and no one cares. ( just look in the middle east for extreme examples )

That is pretty **** sad. Justice can be pretty crappy sometimes. Here in the United states, it comes in the form of racial inequalities in the courts for instance...
Aside from that, those are some terms you got there in the UK... drink-driving? drink drive crash? I keep picturing a car driving into a lake and then having a nice swim.

There are so many sentences that we all feel are an injustices, as quoted by the movie Airheads

Rock stars dont go to jail! Christ, Vince Neil killed someone and got probation!

I think the whole thing is somewhat confused. But that was just a criminal case. I agree with British law that life begins with a first independant breath, and I think the setance may have been a little lax, but I wouldn't ask for much of one.

In this case, the unborn child did not even realize what had happened. The real pain and suffering fall on the mother, and I'm sure there'll be a big civil case where the drunk driver will wind up getting hit much harder.

Hello,

Morhpheus – It’s tricky statement of yours. Unborn baby has no experience of us and perceptions of the end but it suffers a pain. That is for sure.
Question about responsibility for the killing of unborn baby is another issue. That question might be like Pandora case.

M1964 I don't think much will be awarded under UK law in a civil case, I still remember being right gated by a drunk driver right out side Gloscester Police head Quarters at shift change time, had over 20 cops a witnes to the event, Broken jaw, broken nose with compressed airpassage way, handle bar of motor bike pushed 3 inches into right leg and the petrol tank had 5" dent from you know what, did'nt work for over 9 months, and still have a limp today when the weather right for it, took 5 years to get compo, and then only £4000 to show for it happened back in 1980 at the time I was earning £15,000 PA as a service engineer, with £2000 PA Tax free perks so you can see why I don't think the woman has much chance of getting a settlement that fits the loss.
UK Justise stinks always has and probably always will. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
