Help guys, I flashed my bios on my be6-II. I then restarted a few time to check everything out. I then O/C'ed to 83mhz with no problem. (it ran fine at this speed before) I then tried for 95mhz and it wouldn't start. No problem I said I'll just restart it. well it hasn't started since.
I went to a friends house and put my chip and ram in his and it worked fine. I also swapped my video card it's fine.
I'm guessing it's the motherboard or the bios. I tried jumpering the bios to default several time too.
any ideas how to get it working again?
p.s the mobo is 1 month old
thanks

Well, sounds like you pushed it a bit too far with the settings you had....so, this is what I would do to get it working again.
1) At power-on, press and hold the insert key to see if it will boot up into the bios setup screen. If it does, setup your bios to the default settings for your components, and then try your OC-ing experiments again.
2) If number one above fails, then use the jumpers on the motherboard to clear the CMOS and then start over in the bios again with a basic setup.
Target - Hope you're right, but from the description - it sounds seriously like he either burned the EEPROM or possibly the I/O chipset itself.
A question I have is - does ANYTHING happen - beeps - the fans coming on - etc. etc.

BE-6 II --> Never heard of it :--)
Try tapping F6 immediately after applying power. IF that doesn't work try tapping Insert key on keyboard on Boot. IF that doesn't work - download latest BIOS update from ABIT website (requires 3 files > ABITFAE.BAT, AWDFLASH.EXE & Latest rom BEH_QY.BIN) & put these files on a bootable floppy & boot to it. Run A:\ABITFAE BEH_QY.BIN This will reflash your rom, reboot by typing Exit at prompt after flashing & boot into BIOS setup > Load Fail-Safe Defaults > Save & Exit > reboot in BIOS Setup again to set your parameters - you know HDD, CDRom, boot order, serial ports etc. then Save & Exit > Allow to boot OS.

maybe Axel..... but since it sounded to me like he had it up and running again at 83mhz FSB, but it hosed up on him when trying for 95, I'm guessing that all he/she has to do is reset the Bios, and or CMOS, to get it going again. At least that has been typical of Abit boards for me when I have pushed them beyond their over-clockability.

I tried the insert key. It doesn't even get to the keyboard test. I tried the cmos discharge jumper too.
Target, can you fry the eeprom just by setting the FSB too high? I've tried it at 95mhz before with no problems. I just restarted it a few times and it went to default. Also this mobo is made for P3's and will probably go to 150mhz.
AXEL, I get no beeps, the fans run and the H/D light works.
I never had the temp past 50 deg C so heat wasn't a problem.
thanks all,
Brian

I've never heard of frying the eeprom simply by setting the FSB too high, but I guess that doesn't mean its not possible. However, the FSB speed you used was more than well within the range supported by that board, so it doesn't make sense to me that it would.
The fact that you get no keyboard flash, and no beeps is a good indicator of some other things we can try though.
I don't remember which board it was, but I was browsing on the Abit web site checking out bios updates a while back, and they had one update that was supposed to fix an issue where removal and replacement of the CPU and Memory was required when your bios locked up in cases like you describe.
That is what I would try next. Remove the CPU and RAM from their slots, clear the CMOS, and then reinstall them. Then try to power it on and hold the insert key until the bios screen appears.
Keep us posted ok? Will be interesting to see what the fix is for sure, or if you end up having to send the board back for replacement.

I called Microbarn and they told me to send it back and they will check it out. ( it really really sucks being without a computer)
I'm having to post this a work.
I'll let you know what they find.
I'd really really like to hear what the root explanation is - thing is - I doubt they'll ever give you an explanation - the techs typically don't ever communicate with the end users.....
You'll either get the board back , or they'll simply send you a new replacement board as it's less expensive than fixing yours -
Lastly, they might send you yours back without a repair and a note indicating they discovered your over-clocking attempts and you - there-by - voided your warranty. - hope that isn't the case.....

I got a new board back and everything works fine. All that tech said is that it wouldn't post.
I still don't have a clue if I had anything to do with it or not. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
