I hate to be asking so many questions but I have had some problems with stability lately and I believe it might be due to IRQ assingment.

I just put in a Ethernet card and I am having a problem with system freezes every so often, particularly during online gaming. I have also noticed a good deal of distortion coming from my SB Live!Value. After doing some snooping I found that the SB, my LAN card, USB ports, DVD Dxr3, and the High Point Controller for ATA/66 HDD's all use IRQ 10.

I have disabled the USB through bios, but it still says that it is working properly in device manager.

My question is should I try to move the LAN to a different IRQ, and how should I go about doing this. I have no experience with IRQ assignment.

Any help would be much appreciated,
Travis

Man oh Man I've had my share of Be6 problems, mostly my fault I should point out. First leave pci slot 3 open if you can, this shares ata66irq. My SBLive on this caused BIG problems.
The manual might be a source of what shares what.

One of the other problems I am having is distortion with the SBLive! It usually only happens in Unreal Tournament and it is very annoying.

My theory for this is that there isn't much use of IRQ 10 until I get into a serious application. And then the "airwaves" get a little crowded and hence the distortion. Am I write to think this way?

I don't think so, the explanation is in the link! I found all the information regarding ACPI, IRQ:s and Windows 2000 on MS webpage. Have a look, it will shed some light on this problem.

What speaker do you have?? I have the Creative 4-point surround and they have this cracking noise all the time. Once when the computer was turned off, I heard radio playing from my unpluged speakers??????? Now that's a problem, hehehe.

Thanks for the help Zulan. I am running Windows 98, but I think for the most part the same principles apply.

I guess my problem lies in the sound card itself. Maybe the mighty processor on the SB!Live isn't so mighty after all. I have it hooked up to a good stereo right now, and it sounds fine when I am playing MP3's or in a slow part of a game. But when I get into an intense battle in UT, it is all over.
