Hi,

I just upgraded my computer from a pIII 450 with 128 mb ram(pc-100) to
a K7 750 with 256 mb ram(pc-133)......sounds great! but it feels slower than my old computer when playing 3d games, what's up!?

I used all the via chipset patches on the cd that came with the motherboard(Asus K7V), I know that there is some version of the patches that slows down the computer.

The question is, which patches should I use and what version of them.

new computer config: AMD K7 750, Asus K7V, 256 mb(Pc-133),
harddrive(2 st) ibm gxp34 20gb, voodoo 3(3000 agp) and a soundblaster live!

old computer config: Intel PIII 450, Aopen bx??, 128 mb(Pc-100), harddrive(1 st) ibm gxp34 20gb, voodoo 3(3000 agp) and a soundblaster live!

help!!!!!!!

kind regards /ph

Do you really have a K7v? I heard they got delayed on their introduction to the public, but there are some demo boards out there?

I remember on tomshardware.com they said something like the k7v drivers were really slow with some video card unless you actually went to an older version of the bios (4.17 I think)

If you have a K7m, I had problems just like yours until I downloaded and flashed the latest bios from asus.com

Oops, sorry about the whole k7m vs k7v thing. I was going to buy the K7v near the end of march until I saw that the k7v boards were delayed till mid-late April, but I failed to notice that the delay only affected the US. I did notice that “Via” has a problem with their drivers though. See tomshardware about Via’s 4.20 vs 4.17 drivers http://www6.tomshardware.com/mainboard/00q1/000306/

Weird thing is, I don’t know about ASUS drivers vs VIA drivers. Here is the Asus driver page for your k7v. Maybe you can flash your bios with a new one and improve things? http://www.asus.com/Products/Motherboard/bios_slota.html

Hopefully you’ll get it working well, and then you can let all the people chomping at the bit for the K7V know that it’s worth the wait
Here are some other links which I hope you talk to when you get it all figured out. These guys want a review of the K7V. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/002786.html

These are the guys who told me the board wasn’t available for a while – I bet they want to know if it works well or not. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/002786.html

good luck!
