I had a file that wouldnt open, so I chose windows mediaplayer to open it, and now that extension always shows up as a media file...I want to change that back to the "no known extension flying window" icon.
Thanks!
Steve
go to MY COMPUTER, then click on VIEW in your bar in the top next to FILE and EDIT. Then go to folder options. Then go to the tab called FILE TYPES.

That's one way. But that can be kinda confusing, and sometimes you get lost messing with extentions you never intended too (at least I do).
Often this easy solution will be enough:
Highlight a file with the extention you'd like to change
Hold down [shift] and right-click to get the context menu
Choose "Open with..."
Then, in the "Open With" dialog box, be sure to check the box labelled Always use this program to open this type of file
Then whatever program you choose should be permanently assigned to that extention
