any opinion concerning Tom's hardware review of VIA APOllo 133a chipset's supposed inability to truly support Hd's beyond ata33 even tho' claiming ata66 transfer ability? also, if true, since i'm having great success with the highpoint ata66 controller card (using latest bios) on my bx board using wd expert 29100 hd, can i switch this controller to a new via133a board? all comments appreciated! regards, donn ganley

I have 2 ata66 hard drives, (a Maxtor 20G 7200 RPM and an IBM 13.7G 7200 RPM) connected to my Asus P3v4x, Apollo Pro 133a board, I have benchmarked them using HD Tach, v2.6, the specs are almost identical as when I had these same two hard drives connected to a Soyo 6BA+IV using the onboard Highpoint ata66 controller chip. I you decided to used your Highpoint ata66 controller card instead of the VIA's onboard controller, in an Apollo Pro 133a board, I could see no problems doing so.

I have an Ausu P3v4x. I have a Maxtor 13.4G H/D 7200. I bought a Promise controller last week. I used 2 different benchmark tests and the promise controller under performed the Asus ide controller. I sold the Promise controller this weekend on E-bay. I was only out $5.00 from the purchase.
