I have a Dell L500c, and it seems like the mobo won't allow 4 OC'ing. Is this true?...4 all of Dell's puters??

In general, I think this is true of all the major manufacturers. I haven't any experience with Dell, but certainly Compaq and IBM design their system to very specific specs and don't include many ways to change them. You could try going to Dell's support site and see if the manual for your system is available. That should show what you can change.

jadison,

Generally, Dell use Intel branded motherboards and these usually auto-detect the chip on boot up. However, I think SoftFSB has Intel boards listed, so you may be able to overclock via software instead.

Oh, so I could change the FSB settings via software, where can I get this software because I'm not able to access the BIOS (CMOS) on my DELL L500c.
Can I also change multiplier settings as well?

What is SoftFSB, and where can I get it?

Assuming you have a compatible PLL clock synthesizer, then SoftFSB will allow you change the board front side bus in real time directly under windows. You will have to set it for startup at each time windows loads, but it does work. It's a work of H.Oda, and here's his website:

www.h-oda.com (http://www.h-oda.com)

You might need an extra PLL plugins, so I would recommend reading all the documentation first. Many OEM boards use a reference Intel design, and many Intel boards use rather common PLL chips, so you might just be in luck.

Good Luck,
Robert Richmond

This site says it's under maintenance, does anyone else no where to get SoftFSB via Internet or software??

jadison, here's a list of the supported mobos/PLLs from the SFB .dat file. If yours is compatible, email me and I'll zip up the files and I'll email the prog to you.

jadison, from what I could see (at 5am... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif ) the tech specs you sent me don't seem to list the name of the motherboard, nor any numbers to the Winbond/PLL-IC chip. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

I'm really not familiar with Dell machines.

Have you tried comparing your BIOS string (bottom left during POST/Memory Count; hit 'pause', write down string) to the list at Wim's http://www.ping.be/bios/ ?
