I recently flashed my BX6-2 motherboard with the newest BIOS, except that it was the newest BIOS of the original BX6. Now my computer boots up, checks the CD-ROM and hard drives but then it stops. I have removed all of my cards except for the video card, discharged the CMOS jumper on the board and still nothing happens. In addition, the computer does not try to access the A drive so I cannot boot from a floppy and no signal is sent to my monitor so I cannot see anything. I have a celeron 300a and a voodoo3 2000 agp card. All I need is a DOS prompt so that I can reflash the motherboard with the correct BIOS. Please help!!
My sys:

BX6-2 w/ celeron 300a
voodoo3 2000 agp
etherlink 10/100 - now taken out
mx300 soundcard - now taken out

You can do a hot swap if you know someone with the same MB. But first try this: make a simple DOS boot floppy, copy to it the flash program and the *.bin BIOS file, and create a one-line autoexec.bat file that runs the flash program. Sometimes it works.

You can have your BIOS reprogrammed at www.badflash.com (http://www.badflash.com). The guy will reprogram your BIOS for oyu for a fee of $18.

You cant get your new BIOS from Award, as Award has merged with Pheonix BIOS, and Pheonix wont sell Award replacement.

By the way, I did the same thing. Haven't had time to fix the BX6 though. Nice board, when it works.

Thanks for the help. I tried to use a floppy disk to boot but the computer just refuses to read the A drive even when all of my hard drives and CD-ROM drives are disconnected. I've just ordered a replacement BIOS chip from abit - it was $10.50 and I am hoping that it will work. I'll keep you updated - I think that you can also order a new BIOS chip from abit for the original BX6 chip too. Once again, thanks for the help.

I did had a bad flash on a Microstar board and it allowed me to recover. This must be a hidden feature cause I have never read it anywhere else. It may on other boards as well. Good luck!

For AMI BIOS:
1. Rename the desired AMI BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a floppy disk. e.g. Rename A569MS23.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM
2 Insert this floppy disk in the floppy drive. Turn On the system and press and hold Ctrl-Home to force update. It will read the AMIBOOT.ROM file and recover the BIOS from the A drive.
3. When 4 beeps are heard you may remove the floppy disk and restart the computer

For Award BIOS:
1. Make a bootable floopy disk.
2. Copy the Award flash utility & BIOS file to the said floppy disk.
3. Create an autoexec.bat with "awdfl535 biosfilename" in the content e.g. awdfl535 a619mj21.bin.
4. Boot up system with the said floppy (it will take less than 2 minutes before screen comes out).
5. Re-flash the BIOS & reboot.

There is a tool for backing up you bios. There's a link to it somewhere in HOCPs old news.
