Win98SE starts with no problems with my Asus P5A and a Intel Pentium MMX 233 MHz. When I install a recently bought AMD K6-3 with 400 MHz and start, the BIOS recognizes the graphic board (Elsa Winner 1000 TRIO V), identifies correctly the AMD K6-3 processor,
recognizes the soundcard correctly and stops after the message "PnP INIT completed". No further reaction. My sole choice is to press the reset button.
With the pentium 233 MMX installed once again, the system works fine.
I installed the newest BIOS - REv. 1007.a.
I downloaded from Asus support and installed the driver ALI165.exe.
I changed BIOS settings.
Nothing helped.
I would appreciate any help, any tip very much.
Thanks for your answer(s).

Have you been changing jumper settings on the mobo when you install the new processor? and AMD K6-III will need a 100mhs fsb, in your case a 4.0x multiplier, and if i remember right 2.5V .... the book for your motherboard should hav elal the jumper settings mapped out for you (if it even supports 400mhz)...

that's all I can think of, though.
