I posted this last week in tech but recieved no replies, maybe this area might be better as I really am going to burst a vessel. This is the arrangement. WD 6.4 ata66 drive, yes enabled. ata66 cable. DFI vx66 motherboard. transfer rate of 5.2Mbs without dma (microsoft drivers), 20.1 with dma. Motherboard drivers...4.7 and 19 respectively. The first time I set up this hardware it ran much faster. With each subsequent installation(7 in the last two weeks) it has been transferring at this same speed. I have tried the newest via 4 in 1 with no luck, in fact every driver for the busmastering slows it down except the standard one in windows 98se. I have repeated the exact same steps everytime. Please someone...before an impending stroke....give me an idea? Bill

well bill i know how you feel i have a sis chip set and always used the win98 drivers windows loaded . because sis 33/66 ide driver manual recamended win driver said it supported more features. with my new samsung hd i couldn't keep the dma box checked so i desided to use sis ide drivers. looked cool even said sis ultra-dma supported in sys propertys never said that before except no dma box. now performs much slower. so i went looking and found out windows has the fastest bus mastering driver there are faster than most chipset makers drivers, got me? now im stuck because i lost my win98 cd during a move monthes ago. and now i found the fix for the dma check box on windows support page a bit to late . heres what i found. http://www.bmdrivers.com/
