I've Inherited some unused PC components and want to assemble a Screamer Jr.

I've got 2-64M SIMMs; Maxtor DiamondMax 6.4G EIDE HD; ZOOM/FaxModem 56K-PCI; all peripherals; Win98;

My interest has been toward 2 MBs initially:
1. SOYO TEK 5EHM W/ K6/3-400
2. TYAN S1590S W/ K6/3-400

At home right now I'm using a Compaq Presario 4704 that's at the slow end of slow.

I have a P3-450 at work and want something that would at least remind me of it w/o having to spend much cash at this point.

Thanks for any advice in advance.

I would say that the FIC 503+ I just got is the best board for the price range, has 3 simm slot as well as 2 dimm. Great board for the price.

I'd have to suggest the AOpen AX59 Pro. The one I got when I had to rma the fic 503 just never worked at all. AOpen is known for stability, not overclocking unfortunately. It does have a 112mhz setting and with the k-6's you can change the multiplier. We got 450 out of our 400 right out of the box. You probably know most K6's will do that.

I like the FIC board as well.

Got two of the FIC VA-503+ (v1.2a) M/B's, both with K6-3/450's on them. One's overclocked to 475 and the other is stock, and they're both very stable. The 503 is a great board, as long as you don't mind a ton of jumpers!

unless your simms can handle 3.3v (or you buy 5v dimms), you might not be able to use the simms and dimms at the same time. well maybe you could, but it would eventually damage the dimms. just fyi.

FYI, I am currently running a FIC PA 2007 board that is about two years old. Although it has both Simm and Dimm slots one SIMM bank is shared with the DIMM and thus I can not bulk up the board with memory. At least not what I have on hand. Looking forward to 2 64 MB DIMMs recently ordered.
