I saw a y-cable for having two monitors hooked up at one time. I know there has to be a point but I just can't figure it out. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif
Help me out here...

you can do more things at the same time.

Well, not really. If it's a Y-cable, then you're just gonna see two identical images. Might come in handy if you were teaching a class and had one end going to a monitor/projector type thing.

One for each eye. Stereo vision.
It might be good for comparing two monitors in a lab setting. Though I don't know if splitting the signal would take away from picture quality. Outpatients idea seams the most practical

Stores use that stuff or usually a 1-4 Video replicator box. Seems like a waste to have 2 monitors on 1 computer and not have either 2 video cards or a g400 or something.
i heard you can do more things simultaneously, yes it's good for teaching class i agree with that, how are you supposed to work simulataneously on two different things though, i take my last post back..

You heard wrong. A y splitter simply duplicates the picture. And as seti suggested, since there is no boost in signal and you're splitting it, picture quality suffers.

Only use I can see for it other than education is if you have just repaired a monitor and want to compare the output of colour to a known standard.

now i just think having 2 monitors in one computer is a complete waste of cash.

Yeah, you're probably right there wtp. But I think it'd be cool to have output to like 9 or 12 monitors and have an entire video wall. Of course you'd probably have to wear lead underwear if you ever wanted to have children. 8^)

well you can always get one of tose splitter boxes, used for display in the shop. I think you find new monitors are bit greener now, so you only have to watch out for two heads http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

wtp - it might be a waste with a SPLITTER, but a true dual monitor setup using two video outputs DOES allow you to have two different, active displays simulataneously under '98.

The most impressive monitor set up I've seen was two 20", five 18", two 17" and and apple 15" All LCD's on special racks around the guy's desk. I don't know about lead underwear...but suntan lotion for sure. http://members.home.net/cam-t/wink.gif
I only remember seening four towers under the desk. Most of the screens were dedicated to displaying stock info.
