Hello all,
I've upgraded several components in my previous computers but I am building one myself for the first time. It is an Asus K7M. I am using a Tornado case. I adjusted jumpers, I put the memory, floppy drive, then I plugged the power cords and I tried to boot up but nothing happened. It seems that motherboard is not getting any power because even the fans are not working. I know it is not possible for anybody to determine what the exact problem is, but since I am new at this, I thought somebody might have an idea about what I might be doing wrong, especially someone with experience with this particular motherboard. Might power supply be faulty? Any comments will be greatly appreciated...

I know how the K7M might give some trouble. Im having troubles of my own trying to get win98 to work on it. As for your problem, you might need to check your connections between your power supply and your K7M. If that is done correctly, you need to make sure that you are runny with an ATX power suppy at least at 250w recommended 300w to run AMD Athlon's. If you do have an ATX power supply, check to see if you flipped the ATX power switch in the back on the power supply. Hope something worked.

In my opinion, ditch Asus and buy the Giga-Byte!

I had a similar problem with my Asus K7M (but I was at least getting the fans to turn on)...it turned out to be the BIOS (I couldn't even upgrade that due to no power to start the machine). (Problems right out of the box!)

I had to send it back and in doing so, ordered a different motherboard (Gigabyte GA7IX) and love it! (It even has a built-in sensor to get the CPU temp...I just wish I had a program to monitor the temp from within Windows and not have to go to the BIOS to view it)

My 2 cents....

The ASUS is pretty sweet. Forget about going with anything lower than a 300Watter tho'

As a matter of fact Power Supply Power Supply Power Supply.

Ill bet there is a program for your temp monitoring on your installaton cd for the mb.
There are plenty of programs for cpu and mb temp monitoring that will work.
