Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Acquiring OEM Software (98se?)
Ok, here's the deal.. I'm trying to start up a little computer business in a small town I live in. Finding good prices on componets has not been too hard.
But what really drives the price up on the systems, is cost of 98se and bundled software.
I want to run a ligenament business, and am wondering if anyone knows how I can get OEM versions of software. I know other computer stores have them and get them, but I just don't know how or where to get them from.
Could someone please help out a struggling college student, find a way to pay for college?
Thanks a Lot!

Once you have gone to Microsofts website and gone to the "systems builder/resalers" section and filled out the required info they will contact you to verify the information and assign you a OEM registration # That # will allow you to contact the Microsoft wholesalers (ie: TechData, Ingram Micro, Merisel, ect) and buy OEM version software.

Do you actually have to have a computer business to do this, or can anyone who is smart enough to figure out that they can sign up, do it?

You need to have a business license and Microsoft will call and conferm the information before they will issue a ID number to you. You have to have the ID # before you can order the software from the distributors http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Just an add in to the upgrade question.
When you install an upgrade, all previous versions of Windows and their respective license must be retained by the user of the system that has been upgraded, If you sell the older version you become illigal,
( so if you get cheap old windows and upgrade they MUST BE WITH THE SYSTEM when you sell)

snf,
If you are just starting out, e-mail Microsoft, you will be amazed at how much help they will give you if you explain that you are just starting out in your Business venture, and they will also let you know about training sem's either online or local to you, many of these are free.
Best of luck with setting things up, and a good rule to run by is " A fair price for a fair servive and product"
