Mntsnow 02-17-2000, 03:30 AM Thats somewhat of a loaded question...Are you asking which board is better "stock" "overclocked" ???? as for stock I would give the nod to Asus but when it comes to clocking I would give it to Abit. Just depends on what you are trying to acomplish. Mntsnow Bonehead 02-17-2000, 04:09 AM I would definately go for the Asus. Total stability and quality. And no use in bying the BE6 for ATA-66 support because the are al lot of problems with it (and you wont see any different to ata-33). Although, the Asus has a jumper for upping memory + I/O voltage (might help in overclocking). You have to pay a bit more for the Asus P3B-F but it has its reason. GIMOER 02-17-2000, 06:13 PM I am currently using a Abit BE6 and used to use an Asus P2B.In my opinion the Asus would get the nod even with out voltage adjust it is stabler then the Abits. And the Highpoint setup is reason alone to go with Asus. yammahoppy 02-17-2000, 09:20 PM got me a plenty fine asus p3b-f running my pIII450 at 558 with out a lick of problems. asus boards may not be as tweakable as some other boards but once you get them right they are awesome. dont think you will go wrong w/ either manufacturer. like the snowman said depends on the task at hand. best of luck to ya. yamminator Axel 02-18-2000, 07:47 AM I'd have to go with the ASUS as well - I have several in a lab environment and when it came time to flash the BIOS - the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The motherboard manual is also well written with a combination of clear diagrams and photos as well as screen shots. You don't typically see that in Asian made boards that have come documented on recycled newspaper in the past. I've seen a lot more posts about problems with ABIT boards here. Lovely Girl 02-18-2000, 07:40 PM I don't know anything about Asus Motherboard. Is it jumperless? I'm also wondering why it's the most expensive motherboard. Ygor 02-19-2000, 09:22 AM I have an Abit, but am looking at MSI to replace it. Their msi 6163 is an excellent board but I am hoping the BX Master (based on the 6163, but better) will come down in price some. Both are reviewed over at Anand's jooksingjai 02-19-2000, 09:34 AM Thanks for all the input. I went out sold my BE6 and bought a BE6 ver.2. I love this board, hasn't given me any problems for 2 days now. Although I had a problem with my soundblaster live(plugged into pci 5) and the udma66 controller. I disabled the udma66 controller in the bios and it works fine. Anyone know of any conflicts with this pci slot with the udma controllers? Oh yeah, my system is a PIII550, 128megs ram, 6.4gig Quantum CX on a BE6 v.2 and I am planning to o/c it to about 650mhz. [This message has been edited by jooksingjai (edited 02-19-2000).] SysOpt.com
