It is a violation to run a server on your cable modem with @home, good thing too!Napster was not banned from @home, it was never allowed in the first place. I bet these people were running it 24/7 and were eating up a bunch of bandwidth.

I use @home and use Napster also but I do not abuse it.

Noresull - Its not a stupid question!

Napster is almost in a way, an MP3 search engine... You can search for MP3's that other people have. These people have to have Napster. If they have the MP3, it gives you a list of who has the MP3 you are looking for, and then you can download it from them, because in a way napster is a server.

I haven't used it that much, someone else here might what to expand (or correct!) on what I said.

Yup, that's the gist.

People share mp3's right off their hard drives.

Napster is a music community - the biggest, most devoted online community of music lovers EVER. (direct quote from Napster)
I lets you find, share and download mp3's. illegal or not (hopefully legal). it has a LOT of mp3's.

I remember reading somewhere a few months ago that @home was having major bandwidth problems in San Diego, which is odd because I live on the other side of the U.S. from there. Maybe the problems got so severe that they had to do something radical.
