I have recently purchased a box with a AMD-K6 400mhz. I am using a SIS530 super socket 7 motherboard.

Unfortunately I'm having difficulties loading Windows 98 on the harddrive and getting the machine to function properly. I believe I've set the CMOS properly, and find that it the machine does indeed start the install process but after running a scan disk I get a dos prompt with the following message

"Please Wait While Setup initializes
Scanning system registry...
copying files needed for windows setup
please remove disks, and restart your system"

Upon restart it starts the whole process over and I endup with the same results.

Can anyone help?

The best I can say is that there was a bug in installind Win95OSR2 on a board with an AMD 400 Mhz or higher. I have not heard of such a bug with win98, but you may check out Microsoft and AMD websites just in case.

Hi guys,

I hope for your sake that you have a seperate video card, cause ya don't wanna know how crappy this chipset is in 3d.

I have had a similar board with the 530 chipset and a k6-3 450, and at 3dmark 99 it had an overall score of about 500 3dmarks, and that was in 640x480.

So I hope for ya ya got another videocard.

See ya.

I had a similar problem with ASUS P5S-B MOBO. This is SIS530 board also. I was not able to complete the load of WIN98-SE. It would fail with disk write error near the end of the process, every time. (This was 4 year old WDG IDE 1.6GB drive) I repartitioned, scanned, reformatted, etc. several times, nothing worked. Changed disk drives to newer HDD, worked fine.
Using K6-III 400 mhz, 128 mb PC100 SDRAM.
Try another disk.
