I recently acquired a Toshiba 4800ct laptop. The previous owner (unknown) set-up a password in the bios so it is pretty much worthless. I'm trying to find out how to reset the cmos. Things I've done so far.

1. Removed all batteries (even the rtc)
2. Looked for reset jumpers but I have know info on the motherboard.
3. Tried tricks like holder the reset button in for 30 seconds and holding the power button in for 30 seconds.

Any suggestions? The only answer I've received so far is that a Toshiba service engineer is the only one who can do this. I've called Toshiba, but the want to charge me $35 before I can ask the question.

sometimes when you remove the rtc battery, you need to leave it for awhile. last time it took over half an hour, but you might try overnite just to be safe.
