My Via Apollo 133 pro chipset and Celeron 466 with 64mb pc100(although Sandra says pc66) is only achieving CPU-75 and FPU-73 in the memory module.
What's holding my system back?

What's holding my system back? deep_sky 01-14-2000, 11:11 AM hmmm...that is interesting.... i thought that was only an amd chip problem....i have a k6-2 450 with 128mb ram and i get half of what you are getting. i personally think that in my case it is the motherboard that is responsible, as i have a pcchips board http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif...however in your case i do not know why sandra thinks your mem is pc66, are you pretty sure that it is pc100. perhaps you should go looking for a mem tester to verify the type of ram you have.... ironman 01-14-2000, 05:19 PM It's a QDI Legend 5/133E Apollo Pro chip motherboard. Jumperless. The ram says pc100-322-60. Made in Japan with what I believe is or was the Hitachi symbol on it. Although I can't find that symbol at their website. As far as memory clock settings, I'm not sure if I have FSB settings in the bios. denz 01-14-2000, 08:09 PM i'm not familir w/ your mobo but i suggest you check your mobo manual. the setting for the memory clk speed shld be in your bios since your mobo is jumperless. it shld be something like "SDRAM Clk". usually the choices are AGP(2/3 CPU FSB) or CPUdefault). AGP gives you 66 while CPU gives 100 if your FSB is set at 100MHz. denz 01-15-2000, 12:10 AM I don't know what kind of mobo you're using but I did encounter the same problem w/ my G2 and PC100 mem. It turns out that I incorrectly set my memmory clk to 66MHz(2/3FSB). Maybe that is your problem too. ironman 01-15-2000, 05:06 PM Don't seem to exactly have SDRAM CLK setting. I have DRAM timing and SDRAM cycle length(2 or 3) I belive the required setting is printed on the dimm( in my case 3).I set the timing to Turbo.I have a setting for DRAM frequency(bus clock or bus clock +33MHz) I changed it to +33 and something called clock spread spectrum(this relates to EMI reduction) I have no idea what that is. Anyhow, after making these changs my scores when up to 89 and 88. Better but still much lower than the comparitive scores that Sandra gives. Thanks for your assistance. ironman 01-18-2000, 11:55 AM I may have figured it out. My "jumperless" mb has some jumpers. As the board is supposed to be able to support 66 to 155 MHz bus speed(with a change in jumpers) It is automatically set to adjust(jumperless/in bios) to 66/100MHz depending on CPU. In my case a 66MHz Celeron. If I change the jumpers, to the 100MHz position, My system should speed up. Right??? So what I am saying is that now I am running at 66MHz FSB. I can change it to 100MHz via the jumpers. That should help. Right??? Serge 01-18-2000, 07:11 PM In Sandra (99.8.5.30) I've encountered things like my MouseMan+ not heaving a wheel (in Sandra name comes up as "wheelmouse..") 128mb pc100 cas2 memory not registering as such and other very obvious mistakes. I plan to email program creators.. BBA 01-18-2000, 08:54 PM I have seen very inconsistant results from Sisoft Sandra in PC's with modern hardware or with Win98. I put very little faith in it's diagnostic ability any more. SysOpt.com
