My parents recently bought a scanner and in order for the system to run at optimal speed I need to change the BIOS setting. The problem is whoever set this computer put a password on the BIOS setup. I think I'll have to disconnect the battery but I've been told it may screw up the CMOS fine tuning. I went to where we bought the scanner and they said to disconnect the battery and reset the sys opt settings. I not sure how and I don't wanna screw anything up. Can anyone give my some suggestions? Thanks

Before you remove the battery (since its working now), I would download or find the manual for the particular motherboard that you have, and read through it. Most good manuals will come with descriptions for each of the settings within the bios, and in most cases, if you do not have any special tweaks, the default values will make the PC run just fine.

If you are concerned about doing it yourself, virtually any local tech worth his weight could set it up for you correctly in a matter of minutes.

Of course, if you have your motherboard brand and model number, there are probably several people here on this BBS that could also give you a hand with quesitons related to bios settings for your board.....we just need to know what it is. CMOS fine tuning is not rocket science as your scanner salesman would have you believe, and most of us here have been through it several times on different mobo's simply because it always needs to be done at build time anyway.

Let us know what you have, and we'll help you out as much as we can.
