I was wondering, have any of you overclocked OEM Pc's? I had a Compaq 350 mhz Amd k6-2 that I could overclock to 400mhz just by switching the clock jumper settings. (Which maxed out at 4 and FSB at 100mhz) But anyways I just got a brand spankin new Gateway, but I can't OC it because of certain BIOS limitations.......Anyway I can Override this? I have never Flashed anything besides my rear at some hotrodding boneheads on the highway.........By the way they are pheonix Bios 4.0 version 6.0

Welcome to the BBS, KilliK. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with overclocking a Gateway board...anyone else?

Welcome to the board, Killik. Most of us here build our PC's from the ground up, but I'm sure we can find a Gateway overclocker. Do you have any motherboard specs you can post up for us, like maybe out of the manual? How about the model number/CPU/RAM, etc.? Oh yeah, beware of Socalgal when you double post questions to two forums, unless you want a lump of coal in your stocking. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

Tell us more about the BIOS limitations -
With-out having seen this system, I'd say you's have to get a custom BIOS built by a vendor to overcome whatever Phoenix built for Gateway. I'd say they probably didn't make it user-tweak-able. Best place to check for a new BIOS would be the Gateway home page download area. Phoenix, by way of reputation, won't touch it, but might refer you to a side-line vendor who will attempt anything for the right amount of cash - I.E. - wouldn't trust it to be worth your money and it wouldn't be cheap.

Welcome to OEM computing.....

On your next system - think about building it out yourself a piece at a time. As you have 3 other systems, you probably aren't in a hurry anyway. Also, we'd be happy to point you towards good components here and you might even find a few bargins here.

My next system will probably be a AMD Athlon 550mHz chip in a slot A board (haven't picked one out yet, but leaning towards ASUS) in an addtronics case with a voodoo3 video card. Trying to find a cost effective hardware RAID5 array for 3 to 5 4.3GB SCSI hard drives, or, by then, possible EIDE.
A CD-R burner, a regular 32 speed CD, and a 100BaseT NIC are in the equation as well as an external 56 KB NON-win modem. another bargin surplus 17" monitor, I've got an extra floppy drive already - who knows what else.....

Yep you guys hit the nail on the head!!! Pheonix Bios 4.0 version 6. And I went to the site and they just make em, and OEMs configure them..... I have tried every program out there I just can't tweak this baby...
