I purchased a 133Mhz Pentium PC with a Magitronic motherboard, GA-586ATE/ATM, in May 1, 1996. This motherboard is designed (according to the user's manual) to accept the Pentium MMX CPU (P55C).

To extend the useful life of the PC - I would like to upgrade the motherboard to it's maximum processor speed of 200Mhz, using a 200 or 233 Mhz Pentium MMX but I need to find a Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) that the motherboard is "socket ready" for. This VRM installs into a VRM HEADER7 SOCKET. In this way I will get the dual voltage supply needed by the MMX CPU.

I would also like to get the latest BIOS for the motherboard, to bring the system BIOS up to date and to hopefully avoid problems with installing a new Pentium MMX CPU.

Current BIOS:
v.4.51 PG 1984-95 Award Software Inc.

Motherboard:
04/15/96-i430FX-2A59CG0PC-00

Now here's my problem:
I can't find recent information on Magitronic.
Do you know if this company has gone under or changed corporate names?
Do you have contact information?

The company is/was known for value computers and lap tops. I have read some favouable consumer reports on these products.

Any help with finding:
- latest BIOS
- Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) or hardware fix
- contact information for Magitronic
would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance

GA- signifies to me that it is a Giga-Byte board.

Go to their website www.giga-byte.com/gigabyte-web/newindex.htm (http://www.giga-byte.com/gigabyte-web/newindex.htm) , run a search for GA-586ATE and you will come up with a BIOS update for the board. If there is anything else you need, e-mail them.

Good luck. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Wow Susan!

Thanks a bunch, I thought the trail had run cold on me, but you've pointed me to the right people.

I owe you a beer!

(Are you the Susan involved with SETIweb.org?)

Cheers
