I would like to build a web site for a online store, and am looking for suggestions on software to use in building the site. I saw one package called online merchant, any thoughts on this software? I don't know any technical stuff , have worked with publisher 98 to build a personal web page in the past, but thats about it. Any help would be appreciated. fangoria

You might try Tripod or FortuneCity they offer a free store set up called V2,I think. Anyway it would be easier for you. Check it out, can't hurt.

there are many different software packages out there to build a website with, so it is very hard to pick from them.

if you are on a limited budget, then you may want to try something like BigStep.com (http://www.bigstep.com/), as they are free (unless you choose to use merchanting). It is not an actual software package, per se, but they do allow you to build an online store for a minimal fee.

if you aren't limited to a budget, then i'd suggest trying FrontPage 2000. It is supposed to be great! I know that some can attest to this, as you may already know. I have used FP 98, and liked it, so you should like 2K.

There are many free software packages as well. Such as Eversoft Software (http://www.evrsoft.com/)'s FirstPage program. It is pretty good, but limited. You could even just use FrontPage Express, but I don't know if it has e-commercing capabilities.

You could also try Adobe PageMaker, as it is very good. You could try out their demo version of it (if they still do that) at their website (http://www.adobe.com/). It has e-commerce capabilites and is pretty nice. I would definitely suggest it (unless you can afford FrontPage 2000 http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif).

Well, I hope I could help you out some. And if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to post further or e-mail me.

Consider Dreamweaver. FP has numerous schemes and templates that are pre-created, so if you like this idea, it is good. I prefer to start from scratch, and Dreamweaver is excellent for this. It has a couple of real goodies - user can create templates which, when updated, automatically updates pages associated with it. Some creativity is required to work within the confines of templates, imposed by the program. Its clean-up HTML command is great - often gets rid of those inexplicable display errors. It is easy to edit the HTML manually, and to preview the page in a primary and secondary browser of your choice. It is very powerful - I know I have not scratched very deeply into its capabilities. You used to be able to download 30 day demos - a good idea, since it is NOT cheap.
