I've read that, recently, motherboard manufacturerers have started replacing gold-plated contacts on their connectors with tin-plated ones. I've also read that mixing gold contacts, for instance on a CPU module or a memory module, with tin plated M.B. contacts will lead to corrosion and failure of components. etc. A salesman at Memory Man tried to convince me otherwise and hung up on me, but I know enough chemistry to know that mixing tin and gold contacts is a poor practice.

My question is, does anyone know of a motherboard maker that advertises and guarantees that all their connectors are gold plated?

What you are refering to is a galvanic reaction which speeds the degradation of metals due to electro-chemical properties.

Chances are, unless you live in an extremely wet climate, you won't live long enough to witness a galvanic reaction between tin and gold. Ever watch national geographic explorer on the discovery channel and see them find shiny gold coins on the ocean floor?

Move on - this is the step-son of a chemist talking - don't worry about mixing tin and gold. You will have far more problems with damaged pins coming out of the motherboard or cables you use.

Also, you'll notice that most parallel & com port cables don't have gold connectors on them - especially the ground.
