I,m building my first system.I have an Athlon 750 waiting for my Asus k7V MB.I have a Plexter 8/4/32 CD-RW E-IDE ATAPI.I was told you can't burn CD's from a DVD-rom like a CD-ROM is this true?If you can what is the best DVD Player I can buy that I can use to burn CD's with my CD-RW.I know I can download stuff to the hard drive and burn it that way for now but eventually I'd like to copy CD's from one cd to another. Thanks for any help.

That's a bit of mixed information. You shouldn't have any problems when copying regular CDs that are in your DVD drive to your CDRW (as long as you aren't violating any copy protection laws). However, you can't copy DVDs with your CDRW drive. They're much too big (like 4GB/side) to fit onto a regular CD.

Hope this clears things up!

LOL...I dont know where you heard that but I use my Plextor 8x20 burner with either my Plextor 40x reader or my Pioneer 303s DVD player without a hitch! In one of the other systems I have a HP9210i 8x burner that is used with either a Asus 32x reader or another Pioneer 103s DVD. Both of these have been used with great success http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well, the guy was right that you wouldn't copy from DVD _disks_, even if you were to get a DVD player. You'd need a DVD writer for that, and they are still pretty expensive. But since most DVD readers can read CDs as well, you'll be fine using the DVD reader to copy CDs.

I also have a Pioneer 303s DVD reader, and a Plextor 4220 CDRW (these models are for a SCSI system only). Having this setup, I use the DVD player most of the time to read CDs and sometimes to watch DVD movies. Since it reads CDs faster than does my CDRW, I also use it for disk-to-disk copying, saving time.

I've heard that the Toshiba standalone DVD players are good, but don't know about the computer units. Have you checked the Sysopt "User Reviews"? (links off the main page or on the top of the General Discussion forum page)
