Ok now, here's wuz up...the Western Digital Expert 9.1gig 2mb Buffer Ultra66 capable hard drive is sitting on IDE3 of the mobo, which is the UDMA66 IDE port. The utra66 controller's bios is recognized and installs itself on boot up. I've correctly installed the Highpoint UDMA66 controller and it shows up in hardware device manager "twice" as a SCSI device. One shows up as a properly working device, while the second one gives a big exclamation mark stating that Windows no longer uses the device since the last time I booted it the system hangs.

Problem is I know the device driver is installed and working properly, but the second identical driver also shown as a SCSI device says its not. Another bigger problem is under "hard drive" section of the hardware device manager, I simply cannot enable DMA in Windows98. It's not even grayed out, it just doesn't show up as an option. Like, what the hell is going on! This really pisses me off, aargh!!!

Help.
My hard drive is performance worse than it did before when I had my BH6 mobo.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Plucky Duck,

I know I said before I'm not familiar with your board and have never had the chance to play with scsi so if I say or ask anything stupid, just take it in stride. I'm just curious. If your drive is an EIDE UDMA66 drive and your board is UDMA66 enabled with a UDMA66 controller built right into the board, what's the Highpoint controller for?

I have a slew of these motherboards and I haven't had any problems with them. What you may be doing is not installing the driver twice. You have a primary and secondary UDMA/66 controller just like you have a primary and secondary UDMA/33 controller. First, make sure you have the latest drivers from Abit and second, go into the Device Manager and bring up the properties for the controler that is not recognized. There should be an update driver button in there that will let you update the driver. I know it's just copying what is in there, but this is the way to do it. (I didn't write Windows, I just use it.) You can also use this method to update to the latest drivers from Abit. You should have to restart when done with this proceedure.

Hope this helps,
Bryan

ok Plucky,1st off.I had the BE6 and had bad IRQ problems so it took it back and got a BX6 rev,2 and a Promise Ultra66.Anyways make sure the mass storage device drivers are installed right(with the ! present there'er not).So unintall them and reinstall them but after the 1st one dont restart just like the directions say install the second .Dont be alrarmed if the hdd dosent auto detect as long as the hardpoint bios posts you hdd your fine.make sure if your drive is on the channel by itself set as single not master.E-mail me if you need more help or if this didnt help.

Have you tried it with any anti-virus stuff uninstalled. My last MB install caused me problems that I think I would have avoided this way..no proof tho....
