Hi d25woods,

Your On-Board SIS video card does indeed use your systems RAM. However, there is no method of supplying it with its own separate RAM. If this is a problem there are a couple of things you can do...

1) Reduce the amount of RAM your SIS card uses to 4MB (this depends on your screen resolution and colour depth)

2) Buy a separate, independant PCI / AGP card that won't need to use your systems RAM (then you can disable the SIS card)

3) Buy some more system RAM so that the 8MB missing won't be a problem.

I hope this info is of some use to you /forum/smile.gif

Hi!

1) and 3) will obviously work.

2) won't, since the 530 VGA unit doesn't disable - it's multi-VGA capable, and BIOS treats it that way. It just becomes the secondary display when another VGA unit is primary.

The 5SMM has 8 MB dedicated VGA RAM as a manufacturing option, which Compaq obviously chose not to order. No way to add that for the end user.
