can anybody tell me what a hard disk controller is? is it an actual card or is it integral to the mother board? is there an after market controller? in my device manager my HD controller is yellow flagged and all drives are using MS-Dos compatability mode... bummer.
I don't have the exact answer handy that others can give you but... it sounds like you recently added a new hard drive and your BIOS is having a problem with it being over 8.4 gigs.
If this is a store-bought machine, check the manufacturer's website for a fix. If it's not, please give us the details (motherboard mainly & any BIOS updates it may have) and someone better-equipped than I will answer I am sure! The hard drive manufacturer may have a BIOS adapter as well.

Hmm... the yellow flag may mean 2 things:
1. What Ygor said
2. The IDE drivers: did you try to install Intel Bus mastering drivers or something similar?
In 1 go for a HD controller card or update your bios. The card can be bought on any computer stroe.
In 2 uninstall the drivers and leave win 9x with its default drivers.

yes, I did add Bus Mastering drivers, because my system would not recognize my CD-Rom drive. I will try what you said... and then buy a card if that doesn't work. Thanks
