I am trying to install a Banshee video card in this M590 motherboard. The system defaults to the onboard video. Isn't there a way to bypass the onboard video? The manual and web site is not very helpful. TIA

The onboard VGA is multi-display capable, so it won't disable when another card is inserted. You can however alter the VGA order from (onboard) "AGP first" to (add-on) "PCI first" (from system BIOS) to make your Banshee the primary adapter (meaning that the text mode and standard VGA display come from there). The latest BIOS for the M590 w/ 8MB VGA is from 1998/12/09, and available from ftp.pcchips.com.tw/BIOS/M590 (beware of earthquake related access problems). Regards, Peter RobRich 09-22-1999, 12:00 AM Chech for m/b specs. You need to completely disable your onboard video, not just change it boot order. If your running win98, then it will probably try to do a dual monitor setup, since it thinks you have two video cards. This is not good, since most OpenGL programs (and a few DirectX) will not runn using 3d acceleation under mulitple monitor setups. To diable the onboard video, there should be an option n either your bios, or you may have to move a jumper on the m/b itself. Good Luck. BMF 09-22-1999, 12:12 AM Peter is right about changing it to "PCI first" in the BIOS. When you're computer starts does it work fine in dos but then once it gets to windows it shuts down? If so, yeah, check the BIOS for that command, probably under something like PCI/plug and play setup. Once You're in windows you'll want to disable the onboard video in the device manager (mycomputer/control panel/system/device manager tab, just in case you don't know) under display adapters. Click on the old vidoe card and then go to "disable in this hardware profile"), that should do the trick, if not just rip it out of the motherboard (no, just kidding), or check the jumpers on the motherboard for onboard video if there are any.
