I have an abit bh6 motherboard and recently put an Intel Pentium 3 500 in it. I downloaded the most recent bios info from the abit website and flashed it as it said. My system in the initial post and in Windows 98 nows says I have a pentium 2 500. The wesite said to use one of the downloads for rev 1.1 and the other for all the rest. I cannot find whether I have rev 1.1 or not. I believe it said it would be indicated on an ISA slot. I find nothing and since I have had this one awhile (longer than the rev 1.1 download file has been available) I went with the other. Anyway it shows I have a Pent 2 and I am now having random lock ups. I cleared the ccmos and did everything as prescribed. Also I understood the website to say that the most recent download has all the previous fixes within it. There was an earlier download describing a fix for naming a p3. I appreciate your expertise/help here. Thank you.

I think you used the wrong bios. The revision can be seen at the below side of the last ISA slot. Have you forgotten to load "bios setup defaults" after you restarted the pc after flashing? Flashing it a second time can help, but not if you got the bios update for the wrong revision.

Looks like I am in the same situation.
I have an ABIT BH6 MB and the only thing I found was 1.02 under the ISA slot. Not sure which one to download either. Also not to sure on there download instructions:
(sorry for the long post)
the ABITFAE.BAT
the most recent AWDFLASH.EXE
the latest BIOS for your board.
Make a bootable diskette without any resident programs, it can only have the command.com file (it should be present anyway)
Copy the ABITFAE.BAT, AWDFLASH.EXE and latest BIOS file to the bootable diskette. Execute the EXE file to be a BIN file (Binary file).<<<HOW TO??>>>
Finally, just type ABITFAE ***_**.BIN where (*) is the Bin file. Then press (Enter) under A: prompt. It will be updated automatically by itself with all parameters.
E.X: A:\ABITFAE BH6_JJ.BIN (Enter)
(Please be aware ! Flashing can not be completed under a Windows95/98 or Windows NT environment, you must be in a pure DOS environment) When executing AWDFLASH.EXE, do not run HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE in the CONFIG.SYS. You can check to see if you are running any memory management programs by typing MEM /c or MEM /d under the command line.
After the flash update is completed, reboot your system, then go into the BIOS settings. Once you are in the BIOS settings, please:
1. Load the Setup Default (in addition to settings for HDD, FDD, and Date.... please do not forget to also LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS)
2. Go into CPU Soft MenuTM to adjust your CPU speed and voltage
3. Save and Exit.
Please make sure that you are in an a DOS only mode with no memory management programs running.
Note: You should check which .bin file is to be used with your motherboard, don't flash with the wrong .bin file. Otherwise, you may cause system malfunctions. Even the same model's BIOS, according its release date and according to which problems are fixed, can also have different .bin names. Please read the BIOS file description before you download it.
Remarks:
1. When executing AWDFLASH.EXE, do not run HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE in the CONFIG.SYS. You can check to see if you are running any memory management programs by typing MEM /c or MEM /d under the command line.
2. Please take the following actions to solve problems caused by power shortage or other non-preventable malfunctions during BIOS updating that lead to update failure. First, it is strongly suggested that you format a disk that can boot your computer before you update your BIOS. If the above mentioned problem occurs during a BIOS update you will be able to use this disk to automatically execute a BIOS updating. The content of the disk should be the following:
(1) Startup system files (COMMAND.COM, MSDOS.SYS, IO.SYS ...)
(2) AWDFLSH.EXE
(3) The NEWBIOS file which can be download from
ABIT web site.
(4) AUTOEXEC.BAT, which has the following content:
A:\AWDFLASH NEWBIOS /PY /SN /CC /CD
For example, to update the BH6 BIOS version to GY (BH6_GY.BIN), you need to type:
A:\AWDFLASH BH6_GY.BIN /PY /SN /CC /CD
3. If you try to flash a version of BIOS that is for the incorrect motherboard model the following message will appear:
"The program file's part number does not match with your system!"
Explanation of parameter names:
/CC: Clears CMOS data
/CP: Clears PnP data
/CD: Clears DMI data
(SOMEONE EXPLAIN)???

Thanks for responding to my request for help. The isa slot reads v 1.02 and I have
downloaded the bh6ln.exe file for the bios. I have done the things you asked about
and I cannot get it to recognize the p3. In the soft menu what do you set it on?
When i go into it it shows pent 2 at the top and I have the settings under user
define as they would be for the p3. Example 100mhz bus speed 5x multiplier is
this right???? I'm stumped and a little frustrated because abit will not answer my
e-mails. Any help you can off would be appreciated. Thanks, casken
I have an original first breed BH6 and installed the KJ bios. It works my P3 450 at 558 flawlessly at default voltage!
I just had the chance to play with a late rev BH6.... It's hard to mistake it! It has color coded connectors on it and FSB settings from 66Mhz to 155Mhz in 3 to 5 Hz increments.
If you have all black connectors for ports then you have the early version BH6!

Looks like you got to much time on hand Sweeper (perhaps you have an itchy finger). Anyway, back to the subject... Just follow the instructions that pop up when you come to the bios section (Abit users). It's al you need to know. Really. After the first flash it has become somewhat addictive for me and every time a new bios update becomes available I just have to flash it /forum/frown.gif (no joke).
