I have a dirt devil vision (bagless) and it works great. It cost me about $150. It really does a good job of vacuuming. We have two cats and the container on the front of it gets full of cat hair every time we vacuum. The only down fall is that the other parts of it are junk. The little catches that you coil the extension cord around broke off in a month, the attachments that are stored on the back of it are always falling off, and the detachable hose is connected at the top of the vacuum so every time you use it, you end up pulling the vacuum over. Still, I would much rather have this on than the bag types.

I've been wondering about that Oreck XL one - anyone have it? Any better than others?

Fantom Fury. This thing will suck the tweed right out of the carpet. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

Well not literally, but sure seems like it wants to. It is more expensive though.

Check em out. www.fantom.com (http://www.fantom.com)

You gotta love the Fantom Lighning....with it's dual-cyclonic technology and stair hugging design, a certified HEPA filter, and attachments that tuck away neatly in the storage compartement.

Wow, I watch too much late night tv..... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/frown.gif

Hey guys! What's wrong with bags?? I have antique Electrolux with a steel can and a woven cotton hose. Man i tell you - they knew how to make stuff back in the fifties. Cost me $2.50 at a garage sale. Only downfall is I hafta send away for the bags. But i don't mind much since they cost about $.25 apiece... I say garage sale vacuum ll the way!

Honestly, tho, If I had the money I'd buy one of those Rainbow vacuums with the water filtration. Ex-g/f had one and man did it pick up the crud....

We've got a Filter Queen that's served us well for years. You won't find it (or any major brand) NEW for that money, but check with vac shops for used or reconditioned.

And for everything BUT carpeting you really can't beat a Craftsman shop vac!! We use mine throughout the house. Big & ugly, but that thing really sucks!! http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif

But with a peltier, can it be O/C'd?

It CAN be OC'd, believe it or not. But you need a 6" x 6" heatsink with Cadillac fins, and Tri-Thick thermal grease, which is available through Hoover. Careful. This baby rocks!

well I bit the bullet, or bought the farm http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif bought a eureka whirlwind, bagless. $150.00 yeah, wait till I have to buy a heppa filter, first vac I've had with the hose on it, I've been keeping a little shop vac under the kitchen table. I remember the old electrlux tank, right after the war, yeah they were built rugged (like the cars) not all the plastic of today.

psyklone,

don't want to disagree with mom but I have a Oreck Xl and it's kinda cheesily made. The handle is plastic and where it joins to the metal shaft that holds the bag constanly breaks (replaced three time), and it's prone to clogging on dog hair (have three).

I also have a Eureka WorldVac canister and it works like a charm. So, that's what I recommend!!!

I think we have a bag-less Dirt Devil. Guess I should ask the wife... http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif (Ducks the thrown tomato)

There is a filter in the "Bagless" vacuum.. Get a Dirt Devil, their product line takes a filter called "Micro Fresh", the particle size it grabs is down to 0.3 microns. Mine's a "MVP" 12amp. A three pack of filters and small post filter is about $8-10.00. Get the Vac at K-Mart for 135.00. I'm an original cheapskate, so I priced the replacement filters for all the "HEPA" or near hepa quality vacuums, the Fantom Fury filters at 60bucks, some others, the brands I can't remember, were way too high on filter cost also., the Oreck was flimsy, and the home air cleaners don't work either btw. Check upkeep cost, if it's too high, take it back.. DrVette
