I have an Award 4.51 PG BIOS with an annoying problem. The chip will maintain all of my system settings, but insists on resetting the time to 1997 every time I boot. I changed the battery, assuming it was just going dead, but to no avail.
Could anything else cause such a problem?
Maybe a virus? Or could be the cmos chip is flakin on you a little. Is it removable? If it is you should be able to get one from the board manufacturer.Might be better to just toss the board fer a new one.

Try updating it with the newest motherboard bios. The bios upgrade should be available at either the motherboard or computer system manufacturer's web site. If it is a no name brand, then I don't know what to say, other than getting in touch with the retail store that sold it to you.
Good Luck.
I came across a exactly the same problem with 2 customers i had. Now i know this may sound obvious but as i said i have seen it and anyone can make a simple mistake
The first guy actually had his battery in upside down, and the second had his cmos jumper setting on clear cmos. Some motherboards will actually boot up and run fine until you rest and of course it would do exactly what you would expect. this guy had just misunderstood his manual.
Those are the only 2 reasons i can think of for it constantly resetting.
