Ok, I just put together a new system out of a 486. Every time I start, I get a question asking for the new date/time. I low-level fromated the HD, and then formated it using a WIN98 boot disk, the command was:

format c: /s

what is going on, no other parts of bios clear themselves, and the date/time is correct every time I start it, it just askes my the set the correct time.

Sounds like the backup battery on the m/b is dead. It is either mounted in a clip, or soldered on the m/b. Your should be able to find either one at Radio Shack.

Back in the old DOS days, you would get a date/time prompt no matter what if there was no config.sys or autoexec.bat on the drive.
