Several questions come to mind before anybody can really make a constructive suggestion about components.
First, what usage? General all-around, business, or gaming?
All-out speed, or rock-solid stability?
What type case do you have? Generic? AT? ATX?
Any special features you'd want built in?
And the budget is vital.

By the way, I noticed you asked the same thing in the "motherboards" forum http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum5/HTML/002745.html
That's frowned upon by Sysopt, and it's really better not to ask something twice because it gets hard to keep track of the replies. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

take a look at this motherboard -
www.giga-byte.com (http://www.giga-byte.com)
ga - bx-2000+ board -
I think it will exceed your needs - price is floating at about $138 + shipping at the moment - it's the one I'm going to order in the near future. I just wish I could find a re-seller that will sell me that board and a pIII-550-512K-100FSB processor with heat sink & fan - still looking - the package deals are typically a little bit cheaper -
so far I've found a processor price of $217 at egghead.com, but they don't have that board - I might call to see if it just isn't listed on their web site yet.

Just got response from scream0696 via email. I recommended keeping the discussion here to get input from others. http://www.sysopt.com/forum/smile.gif

That Gigabyte Axel suggests looks like quite a board!
I've had good luck with Soyo (http://www.soyotek.com/) products, but I'm running AMD K6's and have little slot-1 experience. If I ever went back to Intel, I'd probably go with the Soyo SY6-BA+IV.
I won't try to recommend any particular P2 or P3, again due to unfamiliarity.
For memory, go with either 128 or 256 mb of PC133 ram in 128 mb dimms. Could get one now, add the other later if needed.
For sound, the Soundblaster Live!
Video, Matrox G400. Fast, versatile, good reports from both gamers and others. has dual-monitor support if you ever want to use it.
"special features" on the board would be things like dual CPU or on-board SCSI controller.

C'mon, guys - somebody else give an opinion!!!

Get a P2B board, with a P II 450 CPU. That will be a great performance machine (for old technology http://www.sysopt.com/forum/wink.gif) and it'll be reasonably cheap...

thanx i want to stick with a pentium 2 board i have a mini tower and the power supply and fan but will the p2 motherboard fit in the mini tower???
Is that case & PS an AT or ATX style?
At the power connection to the mainboard, an AT has two connectors in a straight line, while ATX has single connector with 2 rows of terminals.
