I have a asus P2L97 (agp) motherboard. I forgot my CMOS password and wanted to erase it.

According to the manual (pg 13), I tried shorting the CLRTC jumper points. It did not erase the
password at first (it still kept prompting me). After a few attempts at clearing CMOS, computer
fails to boot.

I hit power, and there is a black screen. It is as if the BIOS bootup procedure is not happening.
What can I do? Even the keyboard LEDS do not light up! Has the whole BIOS been fried or is a motherboard component fried?

Any help is appreciated.

Hopefully you didn't fry anything...

this is usually the procedure to clear a CMOS (AFAIK):

-short a specific jumper (indicated in manual or printed on board)
-power-up the machine
-power-down the machine
-remove the jumper so the CMOS clear function is no longer shorted (IOW, all as it was before)
-power-up the machine as normal (CMOS should be cleared)

Another method is to remove the battery.
